Equip Spotlight welcomes author, minister and professional storyteller Bob Hartman for an evening exploring the power of stories. Organised by Growing Younger in the Diocese of Manchester, the session combines storytelling, practical ideas and questions from the audience.

The focus is on sharing Christian faith across generations, making it particularly relevant to clergy, children’s and youth workers, and others interested in communicating faith through stories.

Make a morning of Chorlton Makers Market

Saturday 17 October, 10am–4pm
Manchester Road, Chorlton, M21 9PN

The third Saturday of the month brings Chorlton Makers Market to the area alongside the library and Oswald Road Primary School. Expect independent makers, artisan food and crafts, with plenty of reasons to take your time browsing.

It’s an easy starting point if you’re new to Chorlton: you can discover something made locally, pick up a treat and get a feel for the neighbourhood in a single visit. Entry is free, and the market is served by local buses and the Metrolink.

Start Halloween with Hoofs, Horns and Paws

Saturday 31 October, from 8.30am
Chorlton Water Park and the River Mersey

Halloween falls on a Saturday this year, and Phoenix Running Manchester is marking it with an animal-themed charity event. Runners, joggers and walkers are invited to take part in fancy dress, with distances ranging from 5km to an ultra on an out-and-back route beside the Mersey.

Profits will support Save The Rhino and other local charities, and Rhino Boy Chris is due to join participants on the day. If you’d like to take part, check the entry options and event instructions before booking.

Outside the Horse & Jockey, Chorlton Green, M21 9HS

For a gentler pace on the last Saturday of October, head to Chorlton Green. The artisan market brings independent traders to the road outside the Horse & Jockey, with the green providing a lovely backdrop for an autumn browse.

Entry is free, so you can drop by for a look, find a gift from a small business or make it part of a longer afternoon in the area.

Give a Tuesday morning to Chorlton Meadows

Ongoing Tuesday sessions, 9.30am–noon
Meet at Chorlton Ees car park, at the end of the cobbled road off Brookburn Road

The woodland, meadows and ponds at Chorlton Ees are part of everyday life for many residents. Behind that green space is a group of people helping to care for it.

Friends of Chorlton Meadows runs drop-in volunteering sessions focused on looking after the nature reserve and its wildlife. No experience is needed, and tools and training are provided. Wear sturdy footwear and clothing suited to the weather; gardening gloves are useful too.

It’s a practical way to contribute locally and get to know people through a shared activity. Check with the group for any changes before your first visit.
